The Curriculum BSc (honor) Program

       The BSc (honor) program is routinely revised to accommodate the recent advances in chemical engineering learning.

      The Chemical Engineering Department offers a five-year BSc program. The first year is devoted to physics, chemistry, mathematics, languages and humanity. In the second year general engineering subjects are covered. These include electrical engineering, materials science, engineering drawing and chemical engineering principles. Besides these subjects, in the second year mathematical courses such as statistics and differential equations are covered. The remaining three years are mainly for chemical engineering subjects. These subjects covers the core topics of mass, heat and momentum transfer, chemical engineering thermodynamics, chemical reaction, unit operations and separation process, process dynamic and control, commutation in chemical engineering, plant design and HSE. The mathematic courses of complex variables and numerical analysis are taught in the third years. The subjects of engineering economics and project management are covered as well the last two years of the program. Computer application such as HYSYS and ChemCad are taught in the fourth year of study. The program also makes provision for elective course aimed at current trends in chemical engineering such as biochemical engineering, process integration and similar advances.  Before graduation the student will undertake a BSc final year project in one of chemical industry. The students are divided into small groups of 2 to 4 students each. The students are required to make detailed material and energy balance, design of the process and its components. The student will also make economical evaluation of the project. The BSc project will also cover plant layout, HSE, piping and instrumentation and control studies.

     The BSc program involves practical trainings. The training include zero training (mechanical, civil and electric workshops), two summer training on chemical industry such as refinery, cement, sugar, food and similar industry, industrial visits to local industry. The program also includes overseas (abroad) training. The chemical engineering students so far visited Germany, Egypt, Syria, Kuwait and Malaysia for training purposes.

BSc Degree Course

The BSc program compromises 170 credit hours covered in 10 semesters (five years). The number of credit hours per semester is between 15-25 hours.
